This is the assessment that General McChrystal sent to Gates about what is happening in Afghanistan. It is pretty detailed and goes into everything that descionmakers will need in order to make an informed discision.
For better or worse this will be Obama's war to win or lose. It doesn't matter who started it and for what reason but a failure in Afghanistan will be because Obama did not have the fortitude to give the Generals what they needed to finish the job.
If Obama can buck the opinion of people like Russ Feingold and actually commit however many troops that McChrystal will need to finish the job then he can count himself in the same company as Truman and other Dems that protected this nation. If he ties McChrystal's hands then he will be another Jimmy Carter and we will have wasted 8 years worth of men and treasure for nothing.
