Why Apple's new IPod Touch is Bad for AT&T

I was thinking about the Apples moves today and I have to agree with this TheStreet.com article. This new IPod Touch will be bad news for AT&T.

The iPod Touch gives gadget lovers a device that's nearly identical to the
iPhone, including popular WiFi features. One thing the iPod Touch doesn't have,
though, is a requirement that users sign up for two years of cellular service
with AT&T.
Why would you sign up for AT&T just so you are locked into a 2 year contract where you are forced to pay $60 a month? That is another $1440 that you have to pay in order to simply use the IPhone to its fullest?
With this IPod Touch you can have your Wi-Fi browsing and listen to your entire music collection as well. You could just take your phone calls on your RAZR or some other phone that costs a fraction of what the IPhone costs. It almost seems like Apple is trying to get out of their exclusive contract with AT&T by any means necessary.
Somewhere down the line if you hear of a Vonage Internet Phone hack that you can run on the IPod Touch then AT&T is sunk for sure. If that happens (and it probably will) then the IPod Touch will simply be an IPhone without a contract.

Here is a pic of the device from the Apple site. It does look just like an IPhone without the cell phone chip and that AT&T monthly bill. It even has a calender, clock, and contacts like the IPhone. I think that AT&T screw up with the 300 page bills that doomed tons of trees may have raised the ire of the Apple Green Squad. You won't like Apple when they are angry.
