Combat Tour Bill Stalls

It looks like the Dems won't be able to cut-and-run from Iraq as fast as they may think.
But momentum behind the bill stalled Wednesday after Sen. John Warner,
R-Va., announced he decided the consequences would be disastrous. Warner, a
former longtime chairman of the Armed Services Committee, had voted in favor of the measure in July but said he changed his mind after talking to senior
military officials.

I think Warner actually got a chance to ask some senior military men and got their take on this situation. I think Harry Reid and the other Dems need to talk to these same men to get the real deal on this stuff. And it is just like the Dems to try to push a counterproductive solution to a problem.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he would have recommended that
President Bush veto Webb's legislation if it is passed. The bill could force the
military to extend tours, rely more heavily on reservists, or not replace units
right away, even if they are needed, Gates said.

So this bill would have actually extended tours of duty and made use even more reservists to keep the troops currently in-country fresher? That sounds like the Dems not talking to people with their boots on the ground and forming their strategy based on this lack of knowledge. And they want to be Commander and Chief?
