Let Ahmadinejad Lay the Wreath

I think the Bush administration seriously underestimates the power of perception. Let the Iranian leader lay the wreath but we make a big show of it.
White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said a visit to ground zero "is a
matter for the city of New York, but it seems more than odd that the president
of a country that is a state sponsor of terror would visit ground
zero."

This is exactly why you let him do it. The Bush Administration can show that even our enemies can visit our sacred sites and not have any fear of assassination. I'm pretty sure that if Bush went to Iran the same assurances couldn't be made.

If Ahmadinejad starts preaching anti-semitism or something I'm sure some local Jewish groups will be more then happy to chant some slogans and hold up signs denouncing him. This whole deal can be spun in the same way as banging the shoe on the table by Nikita Kruschev. I think Bush should seriously consider sitting down with this nutjob "Kitchen Table Debate" style and take him to the woodshed on national TV.
