India Bows out of Climate Caps

It seems that India won't be knee-capping their economy any time soon.

India will not accept a legally binding emission cut nor a peak year of carbon emissions at the global climate talks in Copenhagen, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said on Thursday.

"There is no question of India accepting a legally binding emission reduction cut," he told parliament, laying out India's negotiating position ahead of the December talks.

India would however accept international verification of reductions if supported by financing and technology transfers.

In other words they won't be doing anything unless the West comes up with the cash and the tech. I would make the exact same deal if I were them. I mean they are slowly moving millions of people from abject poverty. So why should the West slow their GDP growth by 1 - 1.5% with some carbon cap BS? So China, Australia and now India are off the GDP capping wagon. Why should any other nation who isn't crazy sign on?
