Looks like the post-Katrina job losses weren't as bad as people thought.
Payrolls fell by 35,000, with jobs in retailing, lodging, bars, restaurants and leisure pursuits such as gambling all taking a hit. The unemployment rate climbed to 5.1 percent, from a four-year low of 4.9 percent in August.
I heard some economists saying that up to 250,000 jobs could be lost. This number is pretty good seeing as how bad those hurricanes destroyed that city and disrupted things. I think that many these jobs came from those casinos destroyed in Biloxi. The unemployment rate rose to 5.1% but not as much as people feared.
