That same article has got me thinking.
Acting Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni asked world leaders not to legitimize a government led by Hamas, saying elections are not a "whitewash" for terrorist groups.
Livni told reporters that Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip last summer opened a window of opportunity in peace efforts, but with the election of Hamas, "the Palestinians slammed it shut."
Yup, Livni is so on the mark with that statement. Pulling those hapless settlers out of Gaza was as wrenching a thing as any that the IDF had done in their history. They had to kick their own people off of land that their fathers and mothers had bled and died for. Some of the stuff was genuinely tough to see like that Rabbi's pulling the Torah out of the Synagogue and knowing that he will never return.
And now Hamas could lead the Palestinians into a path that might lead to strife for years to come. In the words of LBJ "Israel offered the Olive Branch and Hamas has snapped it in half."
