Millennials Care More About the World Cup than Regular News: I Agree With them

This sounds about right to me.

As the graph to the right shows, 18 to 29 year olds' interest in soccer is 9-18 percentage points higher than interest in any of the day's major news stories. The older you go, the more likely people are to be closely following real news.

I mean the major news stories are scandal after scandal from a White House that doesn't seem to know what it is doing. We have parts of Iraq and Syria being taken over by a bloody militant group that has imposed a Caliphate. Obama sends 300 troops and hopes for the best. No bombers or drone strikes or anything so far. Just like the Syrian crisis. Send some MREs and go on to the next thing.

So I would not blame the Millennials for caring about a world wide sporting spectacle than anything in the depressing news. The guy they elected in huge numbers turns out to be incompetent and is not doing anything to help them out. Jobs are still scarce and debt levels are still high for them. So you might as well enjoy the World Cup and forget all the other nonsense in the news.
