“We’re asking cops to do too much in this country,” Brown said at a briefing Monday. “We are. Every societal failure, we put it off on the cops to solve. Not enough mental health funding, let the cops handle it. Here in Dallas we got a loose dog problem; let’s have the cops chase loose dogs. Schools fail, let’s give it to the cops. That’s too much to ask. Policing was never meant to solve all those problems.”That mental health part is especially correct. There needs to be more money used to try to tackle that issue. You know the dog thing is because there was probably a funding cut to whatever state agency took care of those stray dogs.
I also think cops should not pull anyone over for having a broken tail light. That is just a revenue issue and that Philando Castile fellow seems to have been killed because of it. Let cops investigate violent crimes and all that other stuff can be handled by someone else.
