I knew that this $200 price drop wouldn't go over well with the Apple Faithful.

They did just give people who were able to wait 2 months (wow the IPhone is only 2 months old and already marked down?) a $200 discount right off the bat. If were a die-hard that camped out in the line to shell out $600+$1440 for a 2 year contract then you must really be on suicide watch right about now. Early adopters just took both shot gun barrels right to the face.
